Murmurists

Murmurists is the name Anthony Donovan gives to what he makes as a composer. Murmurists began as a solo art project as long ago as 1991; subsequently developing, through myriad fluid stages, to include small-scale live groups, usually improvised, to more recent highly-structured recordings, wherein speech and narrative are central components, with an international array of voice-artists performing Donovan's prose. Artists such as Bryan Lewis Saunders, Pixyblink and Sharon Gal have all contributed in this way. Murmurists is by now also a large-scale cross-disciplinary live act, operated both in the UK and now in the US, of anywhere between 5 and 20 persons, devised by Donovan as a strategy to offer live, semi-improvised versions of his written material. For this performance, he is joined by Ron Anderson, Michael Durek, Stephen Flinn, Philippe Gerber, Robert Pepper, Lawry Romani, David Tumara and Jim Tuite. The first full-length Murmurists album, 'I Cannot Tell You Where I Am Until I Love You' was released by Alrealon in 2013, with its sequel, 'I Am You, Dragging Halo', released by Zoharum earlier this year. Donovan founded the label and imprint Classwar Karaoke in 2008, which he co-curates with Jaan Patterson. He lives in Northampton, England, with his wife, Annie Dee. His interests are all either obscure or opaque, but morally authentic.
