SK ORCHESTRA
The SK Orchestra is alchemy at its finest, started by Michael Durek in 2009. Now organized by Michael Durek and early member Brandstifter, and Robert L. Pepper, the group makes use of Casio SK keyboards exclusively. The power of these keyboards is well known among enthusiasts, and the SK Orchestra exploits it to a level never-before seen. They use the vintage on-board sampler to grab sound from their voices, modern iPod instruments and sounds, ringtones, acoustic instruments, and even each other, to make a rich self-referencing blanket of sound. Often ambient and soothing, an improvised SKO set can make you giggle, smile, or even smack you around and give your unconscious a scare, before bringing you back to a comfortable joyful place, out of your mind and into the moment, the holy fucking moment.
